The way child support ends in Tennessee is once a child turns 18, so long as it is the same year that they are supposed to graduate from high school. And what I mean by that is if your child is on schedule to graduate in the year that they’re supposed to, they weren’t held back the year that they graduate from high school. If they turn 18 in the middle of that year, then the child support will continue past their 18th birthday until they graduate from high school. So, if they’re on track for

school and they turn 18 in December in the middle of the school year, you’ll have five more months of child support. And the way the statute reads is it gets through high school. If your child turns 18 immediately after they graduate high school, then it will continue until their 18th birthday. It’s whichever of those occurs according to the statute. The other way you can get child support past 18 in Tennessee is if your child has certain disabilities. The statute allows for parents to get child support
